For those that don’t know me, my name is Scouter Grant and I am the Group Commissioner for the 19th Nepean Scout Group. Unfortunately for me, I do not live in the Briargreen Neighbourhood. I say that this is unfortunate because every year since joining the group as a volunteer, I have been humbled by the support in this small community.
This spring, like many springs before it, our Scout Group did our annual bottle drive. Our youth (accompanied by adult volunteers) go door-to-door and ask for donations of returnable bottles and cans and every year we receive more than that! We receive warm welcomes and kind words. We see smiles and happy members of the community always willing to give. The support from the Briargreen community helps to ensure our Scout Group can continue to help develop well-rounded youth, better prepared for success in the world.
So, a big thank you goes out to everyone in the Briargreen community who donated your bottles, cans and cash to our group. I also want to thank all of the volunteers at the 19th Nepean, including the parents and guardians who supported the bottle drive by driving around and filling their cars with the copious amounts of bottles and cans that were donated. Lastly, a very special thank you to Scouter Matt who lives in Briargreen and allowed the group to use his home as a sorting and storage area. Without everyone participating this would not be a success.
Without further ado, the total collected this year was a record-breaking $1787.10!
The money collected helps to buy equipment for camps, like tents and camp stoves and funds the programming like the beaver buggies, kub kars and scout trucks that are enjoyed by all the youth.
