LED house numbers, which illuminate at night time.
We all know how important it is to be found quickly, especially in an emergency, by police, firemen and ambulance staff. Yet, in suburban areas of Ottawa, house numbers are frequently almost impossible to find/read, especially when it is dark, and the neighbourhood is unfamiliar.
This problem has now been solved. Head to a store such as Canadian Tire or Preston Hardware and purchase the latest in LED numbers. For a cost of approximately $20 per digit, plus another $20 for the required power supply (do remember to purchase this, too!), residents can install their house numbers. By day they are simply black but at nighttime, they change to very clear, red illuminated LEDs. Simply plug the power supply into a nearby outlet. If the lead on the power supply, which is quite long, still happens not to be long enough, simply extend the wire, using a wire nut, and regular doorbell wire. It is worth it; to know that never again, will a newcomer, or emergency service, struggle to find your house.
If you wish to see what the lights look like check out 21 Crofton Road. Look above the garage door: smart black, clearly legible numbers by day, but red, illuminated, fabulously clear lights by night!

Staff Sgt Stephanie Burns from our Organized Fraud section posted a tweet earlier in the week regarding a new phishing scam
An email is sent to you advising that you have been issued with a traffic infringement as a result of photographic evidence. The email identifies the infraction as negligent driving and directs you to take action immediately.
Phishing emails look legitimate but stop and think. How would they get my email from my driver's license?? The answer...........They CAN'T!!
Don't fall for this; just delete the email .
Feel free to share this with friends, family and neighbors. The more people who know about this the less that will get caught in the scam.

The 19th Nepean Cubs and Scouts are doing their annual door-to-door collection for the local food bank on 23-Nov from 6:30-8:30pm. Please donate nutritious and non-perishable food items (cash donations are also gratefully accepted).
If you will not be home but still wish to donate, label your donation "for Scouts" and leave at your front door or on your front porch. Last year the donations were overwhelming, and not all houses could be canvassed by the youth in the time available. So if your donation is not picked up that evening, it can be dropped off at your convenience just inside the exit of the Greenback Metro. Thank you for your generosity and support again this year!

Hi there,I wanted to share this story as it was quite heartwarming and reflects both the spirit of our neighbourhood but also a genuine kindness story.Earlier this spring during the community garage sale, our son rode/pushed home this bike that was in need of some tlc. Rusty and knowing it had seen better days, I shook my head and laughed at his excitement.
About a month ago, I tried to toss it out to the curb for garbage pickup. Last week while eating dinner, our doorbell rang....our son answered the door to find no one around, only his "old" bike on our doorstep that had been repainted and fixed up! Jacob called out to us to come quickly and see what he had found, the look on his face was priceless.
Now how's that for an amazing neighbourhood?! Thank you very much to the mystery Good Samaritan (who we still don’t know) who has completely made my boys year! Your kindness has truly made a difference.Jody, Mark & Jacob

Shakespeare in the Park - July 3rd, 2016
Summer in Ottawa means Shakespeare in the Park. In this 400th anniversary year of Shakespeare’s death, Bear & Co. brings you Macbeth as the Queen’s Men might have toured it. Within the circle of a rope thrown on the ground, three women invite you into Shakespeare’s warring Scotland. In a country torn by civil strife, who is to be trusted? Are they witches? Beggars? Loyal friends or assassins? Only one thing is sure: They play with fire. Twelfth-Century Scotland is the world of Outlander, where decisions reek more of Game of Thrones than of the court of St James. Here, the politics of the knife-blade rule, and Bear & Co.’ s production brings both the savagery and the surprising tenderness of the story to life. Pull up a blanket. Set out your picnic. The show is about to begin… The full touring schedule is on our website at http://www.bearandcompany.ca/ We look forward to seeing you in the park! |
