Children's Holiday Party

Saturday, December 8th, 2:30PM - 4:30PM

Briargreen Public School
$5 per family

Briargreen's Annual Children’s Holiday Party is once again being held on Saturday, December 8th. We expect to have another appearance from Santa this year! Donations of new children’s toys and books will be collected for Toy Mountain at the event.

Volunteers of all ages are needed to help make this event a success. If you would like to help, there are many ways to support it (e.g. bake sugar cookies, bake brownies or donate icing for kids to decorate with). RE/MAX realtor Amy Collins has once again generously donated the entertainment! To volunteer your time or make a donation, please contact the event coordinator, Liz Anderson at (613) 806-1072.

UPDATE: Elves have told us in strictest confidence that Santa will be making an appearance, so kids make sure your parents get you to the party on time Saturday and you'll find out if you are on his naughty or nice list...

Little Red Hut Fresh Garlic

This weekend why not stop by the LITTLE RED HUT at Silver Springs farm, at 1701 Robertson Road and pick up some fresh garlic bulbs. Great for roasting on the barbecue and of course for Garlic Bread. The crop this year is one of our best.

All proceeds go to help persons with developmental disabilities. The harvest of 44,000
Bulbs results from many, many hours of dedicated volunteers, from field preparation, planting, weeding, harvesting and cleaning and grading!

Open seven days a week until Aug 30 from 9:30 -5:30.

Briargreen Movie Night in the Park

SATURDAY, August 18, 2018

The forecast for Friday is thundershowers with an 80% P.O.P, so we've made the decision to change the date to this upcoming SATURDAY, AUGUST 18th at 7:30pm

The survey is now closed, and we thank everyone for participating! Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle won by a narrow margin with 32% of the votes (Princess Bride was a close second with 28%).
Face painters will be on hand, and we will be playing a few Peppa Pig cartoons before the movie (like the olden days!), with an intermission before the feature film.

We will be providing FREE classic butter + salt popcorn from Kernels Bayshore (who have provided us with a discount) and bottles of water (while quantities last). Don't forget to bring your own snacks, drinks, lawn chairs and blankets!

Big thanks to Councillor Rick Chiarelli for sponsoring this event, and Director of Operations, Jenny Linton, for her persistence with making the necessary arrangements.

See you Saturday!

Shakespeare in the Park!

Sunday July 8th, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Briargreen Park!

Summer means Shakespeare in the Park! Bear & Co. brings the ridiculously over-the-top Cymbeline to Briargreen Park on July 8. Follow a pair of lovers as they react to the mad world around them in a 90-minute version of the play Shakespeare packed with every plot device he could think of: star-crossed lovers, a wicked stepmother, a befuddled king, a loyal servant, separated siblings, wild men, exiled kin, cross-dressing, kidnapping, murder plots, and a Roman invasion.

Six actors tackle Cymbeline’s 40-odd characters, full-on or in composite. Megan Carty (recently at the NAC in Up to Low) plays the heart-breaking and redoubtable heroine Imogen, while Ian Campbell (recently artistic director of Shakespeare by the Sea in St. John’s) plays the hero, Posthumous Leonatus. William Beddoe’s roles include King Cymbeline; Rebecca Benson’s include his wicked second wife. Phillip Merriman (last summer’s Romeo) doubles as her unlovely son Cloten and the fascinating Italian lover Jachimo. Ellen Manchee is both the gruff but kindly loyal servant, and the invading Roman army!

A Canterbury H.S. grad, director Sharon King-Campbell now lives and works in Newfoundland. She returns to Ottawa twice this season, first to direct Cymbeline and then to assistant direct (with NAC English Theatre artistic director Jillian Keiley) when Between Breaths hits the stage at the NAC.

All shows start at 7; our suggested donation into the hat is $20 per person. Please see the full tour schedule, below.  (But double-check the website on show day, to be sure there have been no last-minute changes.)

We look forward to seeing you in the park! (Also, later on, indoors at the Gladstone: This Flight Tonight: Songs of Joni Mitchell Oct 17-27; King Lear March 20-30.)

Briargreen Community Garage Sale

Saturday May 26th 8:00 am - 12:00 pm

Rain or shine!

Our Annual Garage Sale is not just about clearing out your basement and garage of old items — we want to see your crafts and hobbies on display as well! It’s also a great time to wander the neighbourhood and reacquaint yourselves with neighbours who have been hibernating all winter!

Why not break out your baking pans and sell some treats? Cookies, cupcakes, and pies are always in high demand — and it’s hard to pass up a kid’s lemonade stand, too!
We also know the neighbourhood is loaded with talented individuals both young and old.

Set up your guitar, drums, tap shoes, violins, etc., and show off your skills — don’t forget the tip jar! It can be great way to earn a little money for yourself, or raise awareness for your favourite charity.

May is Membership Month

Each year in May, we ask Briargreen residents to support the activities of the Briargreen Community Association (BCA) with the payment of a membership fee. We suggest $10 for single or couples, and $20 for families with children
but we welcome contributions in any amount.

Only with your support through your voluntary payment of the annual membership fee can the Briargreen Community Association continue to provide this important role in our community. We thank you for your continued support!
