A Message From The 19th Nepean Briargreen Scouts
Unfortunately, the 19th Nepean Briargreen Scouts have had to cancel many long-standing annual door-to-door neighborhood activities due to the COVID pandemic -- in particular the past spring bottle drive and the upcoming fall food drive. To be safe, Scouts Canada has created a completely online fundraiser for this fall. To be responsible, this fundraiser is based on organic and fair-trade products supplied by local and community-oriented Equator Coffee Roasters.
Please consider supporting Briargreen Scouts by placing an order online at https://scoutcoffee.ca/ before November 22nd, and don't forget to choose "19th Nepean" when you checkout. In place of the food drive, please consider making a donation of non-perishable food in the FAMSAC bin at the Greenbank Metro, or a monetary donation at http://famsac.ca/donate/ mentioning "19th Nepean" in the donation message. Since the public health situation continues to evolve, expect an update regarding 19th Nepean's annual Nanaimo drop-in Christmas Tree sale and Briargreen door-to-door Christmas caroling by early December.
The Scouts hope that all residents are as healthy and happy as can be in the circumstances, and encourage everyone to stay well-informed and vigilant with hygiene, distancing, and masking. We'll get through this better with knowledge, perseverance, and cooperation!

Briargreen 'Kids' Run for Nature'
The following was organized by one of our wonderful Briargreen residents!
Sunday, October 18 at 11am in Briargreen Park!
You may have seen some of these posters up on mailboxes in Briargreen lately - My daughter has been wanting to do something to help the planet for a while and since the Kids' Run for Nature was canceled this year, we decided to do our own run all in Briargreen! We'd love you to join us! We put in a suggested route for a 2 km and a 5 km fun.
If a larger group shows up, we'd stagger the starts (this isn't a timed event) to make sure we're all still maintaining social distancing measures.
Note that we're not collecting money for the run, the idea is that people fundraise for the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) on their own and donate directly to WWF.
Hope to see you on Sunday, October 18 at 11am in Briargreen Park!

Movie Night in the Park - Jumanji: The Next Level
Hello Briargreeners,
Although we have been unable to hold any community events this year, we
are happy to announce that we are in the midst of planning a Movie Night in the Park for next weekend, Friday, August 28, or as a rain-date, Saturday, August 29th.
Start time would be after dusk (approximately 8:30pm). As in previous
years, we’d begin with a couple of short kids cartoons, and then proceed
to our feature, Jumanji: The Next Level.
We realize this is short notice for many families, but we only just
received the go-ahead from our contact at City of Ottawa. In order to
help with Covid-19 protocol compliance, we are asking that one member from each family register your interest by completing the 30-second survey sent to your email.
This will help us monitor the outdoor gatherings capacity limit of 100
people, and help us plan for the event. Social distancing is required,
and each family will be responsible for ensuring their own adequate
spacing is maintained.
Please note: There will be no porta-potty this year, and we are unable to provide snacks.
We look forward to seeing you all!
Sincerely,
BCA Executive

Briargreen Newsletter
I hope you’re enjoying summer, and able to make the most of our compromised socializing and travel options during this pandemic. More importantly, I hope you and your family are healthy.
As most of you know, our municipal ward (College) has been making news headlines in many of Ottawa’s media outlets over the past couple weeks and months, including our own social media page on Facebook.
While as a community association we prefer to stay out of local politics, we do from time to time get pulled in. I took the time to meet with fellow community association presidents in order to get a sense of the current situation.

A COVID 19 message from our ward councillor
Ottawa Public Health has been busy keeping residents across the city as safe as possible by continuously updating the measures put in place to stop the spread (planking the curve) of COVID-19. Please see the attached 'Letter to Community Associations' for the latest updates.
Additionally, the need for resources is growing rapidly and access to those resources has been challenging for a variety of reasons. The seemingly simple act of asking for help can be stressful for many and not knowing where to turn may keep help out of reach.
Our Human Needs Taskforce is coordinating with reliable and credible support organizations within the municipality.
The goal, is to make getting help less stressful.
I have attached the list of key contacts provided by the Taskforce team as well. Please share it with your communities via social media, email or any other means. As a group, we can keep more of our residents safe

Briargreen Winter Skate Party
Our local skating rink (just off Carlaw Ave)
Join us at the rink for sleigh rides, skating, quinzhee building, hot chocolate and some special surprises! Bring change - the Girl Guides will be on site selling Beaver Tails and hot dogs to fuel your afternoon activities!
Snow conditions permitting, the plan is to build a quinzhee. If you want to take part in the Sunday morning construction, watch for updates on the Briarvine twitter feed or website.
See you there!
