Another car broken into on Ashgrove

Neighbours - please be careful locking your car doors at night.  Another car has been broken into (although it was locked) on Ashgrove last night.  The glove box and arm rest were opened and looted, the lights were on inside the car and the doors were unlocked in the morning.  Ensure you do not keep anything valuable in your cars overnight.

Briargreen Community Day

Community Day 2017

It was lovely seeing all of our neighbours at this year’s Community Day.  The weather cooperated which made it even more special.

The fire truck led a large contingent of people around the block with many children proudly showing off their decorated bikes. Both adults and children participated in various running races, potato sack races, wheelbarrow races, egg races, bean toss, and a large tug of war between parents and children.  After a very long and difficult time the children were victorious.

Throughout the event, the children were able to “go fishing” to capture a small toy, bounce in the Bouncy Castle, request specific balloon animals/shapes from our busker, ride either a pony or horse, and generally enjoy being outdoors with friends.

Adults were entertained by two country singers while enjoying their burgers, hotdogs, chips and drinks.  They were also able to see some memorabilia about the beginnings of Briargreen.  There was information on the prices of all the Campeau homes (approximately $24,000 - $34,000), see and touch original keys from both the Minto and Campeau homes, see many pictures of the homes being built and of families living in the neighbourhood at that time.  I even heard someone say they saw and talked to neighbours they hadn’t seen in many, many years.

The executive would like to acknowledge Bill de Jourdan, Sales Representative from Details Realty (613-296-9385) for his sponsorship towards this event.  His business card can be found under sponsors on our website.

We would also like to thank the many volunteers that helped make this day special.  To all those that helped with selling the tickets, handing out food/drinks, taking membership forms/money or signing up those that forgot their forms, carrying the tables/chairs from/to the event, helping with the Bouncy Castle or fishing pond, doing the actual cooking, etc. we thank you very, very much.  Without volunteers these types of events could not take place.

Please note:  membership forms are still being accepted at 4 Ashgrove, 66 Ashgrove or 27 Meadowbank.  If you have lost your form, please email briarvine@gmail.com and an electronic version will be sent to you.  To date we have about 60% of the residents in Briargreen handing back their forms/money.  The money from this drive allows us to put on events like Community Day throughout the year.

Also - to the folks that forgot to sign their cheques or forgot to put their cheques/money in the envelopes, please just drop them off at 66 Ashgrove in a plain envelope with your address - form has already been accepted.

Membership Drive Update

We have 540 homes within Briargreen.  A week ago we delivered membership forms to each home within Briargreen asking if they would like to contribute to our membership drive to enable us to sponsor many family-oriented activities throughout the year as well as writing several issues of the Briarvine annually and producing the Briargreen Directory bi-annually.

As of May 22nd, 112 forms have been returned.  The Briargreen Community Association (BCA) would like to thank those that have already returned their forms/money and ask those that have not, please do so.

Many people have offered to volunteer at our various activities - this is lovely to see that those within our community are willing to offer their time and expertise to make our neighbourhood a great place to live.  The BCA is always looking for more people to join the executive or to volunteer at individual events.  If you did not volunteer on the form, please note you can sign up "anytime".  Just send a quick email to briarvine@gmail.com.

All suggestions have been read and I will post a summary of them nearer the end of the drive. Stay tuned.

Thanks as well to those residents that put a "little extra" in their envelopes.  It has been acknowledged and is much appreciated.

What a wonderful community we live in.
