BRIARGREEN PUBLIC SCHOOL UPDATE


This Wednesday, April 12th at 7:30, the OCDSB will present another Q&A session regarding the planned $3.5 million construction at Briargreen. Our School Council meeting will be held 6:30-7:30, with a discussion beginning at 7 pm regarding how other schools have dealt with children being taught while construction is happening and what, as Briargreen parents, we would like to see happen to ensure that our children continue their learning in a safe environment. Everyone is welcome!

Scouts Bottle Drive

19^th Nepean’s Cub pack and Scout troop with be doing a door-to-door bottle drive on 05-Apr and 12-Apr between 6:30pm and 8:30pm.  We will take recyclable cans and bottles off your hands, and use the refunds to help support the cost of programming and camps for the youth.  If you will not be home, you can leave your donation on your porch with a note saying “for Scouts” and we’ll retrieve them.  We will not be able to canvass the entire neighborhood in one evening, so will do Crofton and Lindhurst and west on 05-Apr, and the eastern remainder of the neighborhood on 12-Apr.  If you can’t wait until April to be relieved of accumulated cans and bottles, feel free to contact Scouter Charles at 613-596-0382, or at 19thNepeanScouts@gmail.com, to arrange an earlier pickup.  Thanks for your continued support!

FOUND - BLUE CHILDREN'S MEC MITTEN

A blue children’s MEC mitten was found at the corner of Crofton and Higgins.

LED house numbers, which illuminate at night time.

We all know how important it is to be found quickly, especially in an emergency, by police, firemen and ambulance staff. Yet, in suburban areas of Ottawa, house numbers are frequently almost impossible to find/read, especially when it is dark, and the neighbourhood is unfamiliar.

This problem has now been solved.   Head to a store such as Canadian Tire or Preston Hardware and purchase the latest in LED numbers.  For a cost of approximately $20 per digit, plus another $20 for the required power supply (do remember to purchase this, too!), residents can install their house numbers.  By day they are simply black but at nighttime, they change to very clear, red illuminated LEDs.  Simply plug the power supply into a nearby outlet. If the lead on the power supply, which is quite long, still happens not to be long enough, simply extend the wire, using a wire nut, and regular doorbell wire.  It is worth it; to know that never again, will a newcomer, or emergency service, struggle to find your house.
